The head of the Domestic Policy Directorate of the Presidential Administration, Konstantin Kostin is soon to quit his post according to a Kremlin source.
‘Kostin will soon leave the Department to head up a Foundation for the Development of Civil Society which is founded by a number of public organizations’ said a colleague of Kostin’s. He did not say who Kostin might be replaced by.
Kostin is part of Vice-Premier Vladislav Surkov’s team.
In the mid 1990’s he worked with the current deputy chairman of the government for Menatep Bank.
Towards the end of the 1990’s Kostin specialised in Political Consultancy.
He began his career as a pre-election political consultant at the campaign headquarters of ‘Fatherland.’
In 2005 Kostin moved to the Kremlin and took over as advisor to Surkov who was at that time Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration. He was soon appointed as Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee of ‘United Russia’.
From June 2008, Kostin worked as Deputy Chief of Domestic Policy and from 12thSeptember 2011 he became Director of the Department of Domestic Policy.
Rumours about his impending departure from the Kremlin first surfaced after Surkov joined the government and following Vyacheslav Volodin’s appointment as curator of domestic policy.
