‘Some key objectives were identified immediately after Putin became President, and they are now his number one priority,’ Kostin told Interfax on Monday. ‘The May decrees are not just a declaration of intent, they are a concrete programme of action which will be of benefit to the people. It is absolutely clear that there will be firm, unwavering government control over the implementation of these new laws’ said Kostin.
The main goal, according to Kostin, is progress in the social sphere. ‘The government wants to create conditions which are conducive to the development of social policy, to economic growth and also to population growth. It is a strategic policy to improve the quality of life for ordinary Russian people.’
But the May decrees are not only aimed at improving quality of life - they are main tool that can be used to solve problems in society.’
Which is why, reiterates Kostin, the most important achievement of President Putin in the first year of his third term of office is ‘political reform, the campaign against corruption, and stability in the country.’
